Children’s Speech and Language Therapy in London

Helping your child communicate, connect and take part

SEND & Sensory provides private speech and language therapy for children in London, with clinics in Walthamstow, Kilburn and Hayes, Bromley. We help families understand their child’s communication needs and agree practical, individual goals.

You may be concerned about your child’s speech, their understanding of language or how they communicate during play and everyday routines. We begin by listening to you and getting to know your child—their strengths, interests and the support they need.

An HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapist leads the relevant assessment, clinical recommendations and review. We explain who will deliver sessions and how your child’s care is overseen.

Speech and language support shaped around your child

Speech and language therapy considers how a child understands, expresses themselves and takes part in communication. The right support depends on the child’s assessed needs and what matters in their everyday life.

Areas we can explore with you

  • Understanding language: making sense of words, questions and instructions.
  • Expressing ideas: using words, sentences or other ways of communicating needs, choices and experiences.
  • Speech sounds: understanding difficulties that make speech less clear.
  • Interaction and play: supporting shared activities, communication and participation in ways that suit the child.
  • Autism and SEND: understanding individual communication differences and the support needed at home and in education.
  • Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC): considering gestures, signs, symbols, communication books or devices where appropriate.

We discuss whether our service and the available professional expertise are suitable for your child before agreeing an assessment or therapy programme.

A personalised plan through the Mosaic Pathway™

Our Mosaic Pathway™ provides a framework for bringing together assessment findings, individual goals and therapeutic support. Where a child has sensory or wider developmental needs, we consider how relevant professional input can work together.

Development is not always a steady progression. A child may build skills in one area while needing more time or support in another. We review the approach rather than expecting every child to move through the same steps at the same pace.

What to expect from assessment and therapy

1. Talk to us

Start with a free 15-minute consultation to discuss your concerns and possible next steps. This conversation helps you explore the service; it is not a diagnostic assessment.

2. Understand your child’s needs

Where an assessment is recommended, the Speech and Language Therapist considers your child’s communication alongside information from you and, with the appropriate consent, school or other professionals. We explain the assessment format, fees and what is included before booking.

3. Agree meaningful goals

We identify priorities with you and develop an individual plan. Goals might focus on communicating a choice, understanding a routine, sharing an activity or being understood more easily. Activities are selected for your child’s needs and interests.

4. Practise, review and adapt

Therapy may be delivered by an HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapist or through agreed activities delegated to a competent assistant with clinical direction and supervision. A standard session includes 50 minutes of therapy and five minutes of parent or carer feedback.

Plans are shared at the start of each term, with termly progress reports and an opportunity for a 15-minute parent evening appointment. Your observations from home help us review progress and decide whether goals or support should change.

We strive for clinical excellence by investing in staff development, supervision and reflective practice. Read about clinical supervision and standards of care, or meet our team.

Do I need a referral or diagnosis?
