Our approach · SEND & Sensory
Understanding who supports your child, how therapy is overseen and how we work together.

At SEND & Sensory, we want families to feel informed and involved in their child’s care. Our team includes HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapists, therapy assistants and specialist practitioners, each contributing within their qualifications, training and experience.
Where speech and language therapy activities are delegated to an assistant, they are delivered with clinical direction, supervision and support from an appropriately qualified HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapist.
These arrangements operate across our Walthamstow, Kilburn and Bromley clinics.
The practitioner supporting your child is selected according to their assessed needs, therapy goals and the skills required to deliver their programme.
Your child’s support may involve:
We explain who will deliver your child’s sessions, their professional role and who provides clinical oversight. You can ask us about these arrangements at any stage.
For Speech and Language Therapy, an HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapist leads the relevant assessment, clinical recommendations and review. Parents are introduced to the registered therapist responsible for their child’s speech and language therapy.
Where an assistant delivers activities, the responsible clinician decides what can safely be delegated, provides appropriate instructions and support, and reviews the outcome. The assistant is responsible for carrying out the agreed work safely, within their scope of practice, and seeking advice when needed.
Registered clinicians remain accountable for their own professional decisions and advice. Delegating an activity does not remove the delegating clinician’s accountability for its overall outcome.
Your child’s therapy plan
Each speech and language therapy plan is completed by an HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapist, with input from the practitioner working directly with the child.
Clinical supervision provides dedicated time for practitioners to discuss their work, reflect on decisions, seek advice and develop their skills. It also helps identify concerns and agree actions to support safe, effective care.
Our supervision and clinical oversight arrangements include:
These arrangements operate across all three clinics. Monthly supervision also provides an opportunity to discuss clinical workloads, review priorities and identify where additional support is needed.
Agreed actions are recorded and followed up in line with relevant HCPC record-keeping standards, providing a clear record of decisions and next steps. The level of supervision and support reflects the child’s needs, the activities being delivered and the practitioner’s experience.
Supervision does not always require the supervising clinician to be in the room. Where an assistant delivers a session without the clinician present, there are clear instructions, appropriate competence and an agreed route for obtaining advice.
We explain when the clinician is directly involved and how your child’s therapy is reviewed.
We schedule dedicated observation weeks each month, with clinical practice observed at least fortnightly. Supervisors also observe additional sessions where needed to provide advice about individual children and support the practitioner’s overall practice.
Between planned supervision meetings, practitioners can contact a qualified Speech and Language Therapist for advice in person, by phone or by email. If their clinical supervisor is away or unavailable, they can contact a supervisor at another clinic or the Clinical and Professional Lead.
Yes. Professional supervision supports Speech and Language Therapists and therapy assistants throughout their careers, including experienced clinicians and those providing supervision to others.
At SEND & Sensory, all staff working with children receive monthly clinical and professional supervision. These formal 1:1 meetings take place in a confidential space and are documented. Supervision is a requirement within our service, regardless of experience level.
It provides space to reflect on clinical decisions, discuss complex situations and develop practice. Newly qualified Speech and Language Therapists receive additional structured support as they work towards the relevant Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) newly qualified practitioner goals and development requirements.
Clinical supervision sits alongside management support, training and continuing professional development. Together, these arrangements support quality assurance and help registered professionals meet relevant HCPC standards and follow RCSLT guidance.

Our Mosaic Pathway™ provides a framework for bringing together assessment findings, individual goals and therapeutic support.
We begin by understanding your child’s strengths, needs and starting point, alongside what matters most to your family. These inform meaningful goals — for example, communicating a need, taking part in play or becoming more independent in an everyday activity.
Progress is considered through:
Progress is individual and does not always follow a straightforward sequence. Your child may need more time or different support in different areas, and goals are reviewed in light of their needs and progress.
Your child’s therapy plan is shared with you at the start of each term, setting out their goals and planned support.
We strive for clinical excellence and are committed to doing our very best for every child and family. We invest in skilled, compassionate staff and support their development through clinical supervision, peer review and shared learning.
Our ambition is to help every child make meaningful progress in their own way, with care that recognises their individual strengths and needs.
SEND & Sensory — Where every child thrives.
The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) sets professional standards for registered professionals, including Speech and Language Therapists. Its standards cover appropriate delegation, ongoing supervision and support, and clear, accurate records.
HCPC registration relates to individual professionals. You can ask our team for the name and registration details of the Speech and Language Therapist responsible for your child’s care.
The fortnightly and monthly arrangements described on this page are SEND & Sensory’s service arrangements. Supervision and support are adapted to reflect individual clinical and professional needs.
If you would like to discuss your child’s plan, progress or supervision arrangements, speak with the practitioner working with your child or contact our team and ask to speak with the clinical lead.
